Mud wasp or mud dobbers. They usually don't bother anyone and each spider has been paralyzed by a sting, dragged to the nest and encased with an egg from the wasp. The larvae will eat the spider alive and hatch out when its time. They can be a nuisance but are easily washed off of the wall with a hose. I have never been stung by one but I know of those who say they have. I do know that they are not aggressive, just protective.

The clay nest was that of organ pipe dirt (or mud) dobbers; a type of wasp. They paralyze spiders and put them in their nest for food for thier young. You can see a picture of the dobber's nest here: http://www.ent.iastate.edu/imagegal/hymenoptera/sphecidae/sphecinae/organpipemdcell.html
Such is life ...

Some type of wasp. They collect the spiders and put them in the mud/clay nests. The wasps lay their larvae inside and later eat the spiders for baby-wasp food :D

They are called either dirt dobbers or mud dobbers. Harmless to humans as a rule. They catch spiders and put them in nest for their young to eat. Kind-a good to have around.
Not good to have around if you own a Merc. outboard because one of their favorite places to build a nest in in the water's exhaust port.

They are mud dobbers. They are definitely a beneficial insect. They love to catch and eat spiders. They do not attack humans, cats, dogs, etc., unless seriously provoked. (I mean you have to slap them around, insult their mother, and start to pluck their wings off!) They do make a mess, but they keep the spider population in check!

ok most likley it would be a mud wasp they build there nests in clay like substansis and they look a lot like what u r describing. They can kill (and eat) small dogs cats and other isects or in ur case aracnids. Do not spray them urslef they are HIGHLY venomous there are profesionalls out there that specialize in this field! Hope this helped!

well, i would do all of those, actually... in this order: D: non of the above...i would ignore it, untproceeds can't get those thoughts that it will eat me out of my head... C: blow on it and see what it does. it proceeds to crawl around on the wall, go faster and faster towards my head. A: Kill it...but unfortunately i will fail...most likely because i am afraid to touch it, and will throw a shoe at it from a long distance. it still lives... E: get someone else to kill it...i would get my crazy cat in here, then record the cat flying across the walls chasing the demon spider. then the cat squashes it, and leaves its dead spider-body there in order to go lay in the sun. B: let the body be, for the cat will be back to finish the job... YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!
