I notice that instead of a question receiving only answers, sometimes the question evolves into a discussion. Much like a forum.

My understanding of Yahoo Answers is the format is supposed to be Q & A.
Not Question & Argue.

Do you believe Yahoo Answers is now regarded as less a source of knowlege or opinion than a means to discuss items of interest and possible promote yourself to the world?

Yahoo answers is not supposed to be a source of reputable knowledge. Like a forum, it is a common place for every kind of person to disseminate their thoughts and ideas. What are questions and answers but the epitomy of human thought? You can't expect everyone who uses a service like this to give the most informational, educational answers and questions possible. People see words which pique ideas in their mind, and they feel the need to respond justly.
