Either Glory or We were soldiers (I like military movies i fyou havent noticed). Non war would be Willy Wonka (the old one)
Glory- It has everything a good movie needs, downtrodden protaganists that go through a metamorphisis and in the end gain fame for their bravery, plus the actors were AMAZING and the score was to die for.
We were soldiers- Same as above but the events are more fresh in everyone's minds and many people can relate to the years and events that those men fought in.
Willy Wonka- A wacky trip through a physics defying factory with solid acting and a plot that never ceases to astound the viewer, Gene Wilder is the perfect Willy Wonka and portray's him masterfully. Musical score was A+ as well...oh and
oompaloomapa's DUH!

The Shawshank Redemption. I guess it's my favorite because of the redemption factor. Justice prevails. Each role is cast perfectly. Morgan Freeman should have won the Oscar for this one rather than for Million Dollar Baby.

Sister Act starring Whoopi Goldberg is my favorite movie. It's the classic tale of good being made out of bad.

Goodfellas. It's a story that happens over a long period of time. That's one of the reasons.

American Beauty was too. I thought it was very artistic.
That's for mainstream.

I like a lot if independant films too, but they can't fit into this catagory..they don't hit on all cylinders. I wouldn't like them if they did.

I have so many but if I could choose just one I'd say The Mummy cuz it had the action adventure, romance. And as for genres theres musicals and horror. There should be more questions like these, more fun :)

La Belle et la Bete. It is a great french version of the Beauty and the beast myth. It also has an operatic counterpart.

Probably The Wizard of Oz. It's such a timeless story and is so beautifully done, I don't think it will ever be remade because you simply can't improve on perfection.
