severe nausea: pepto bismol, Emetrol.

Me, personally, have not found them to be effective. As fast as I consumed them I threw it back up, even with simple nausea.

Like the other answered said it's almost best to let it run it course. The body is wanting to get rid of something that's it sees as an invader. Now servere nausea may require medical attention.

Personally, I'm into natural. I have sniff on essenstial oils of ginger, peppermint, clary sage and/or lavender. This suppresses simple cases of nausea. If I can catch it before it becomes severe, I have used Papaya Nectar, Papaya Cream (it's thicker), Peppermint tea and Ginger tea.

If I don't have these available I would eat on some dry crackers and a fresh can/bottle of Lemon-Lime soda (Mist, Sprite, 7-up). Flat, non-carbonated Coca-cola has also helped before.

I have actually found that Motion sickness pills work best for me. I recently suffered a severe stomach flu. I tried a script of Promethazine which only made it worse and I eventually vomited it back up. I tried a motion sickness pill and it helped so much more. It quelled the nausea, settled my stomach and I was able to get in some seriously needed fluids. It may not work for everyone but it was a wonder pill for me.

People experience nausea for a number of reasons. Indigestion, food poisoning, the stomach flu, and pregnancy are all common situations that can induce nausea. Whatever its cause, nausea is a very unpleasant experience. Luckily, nausea can usually be treated safely and easily at home.

One of the best and oldest home remedies for nausea is ginger. Eating a small piece of fresh or pickled ginger usually helps the nausea to subside. Additionally, ginger tea can be made by boiling fresh ginger in water and adding honey or milk as desired.

If nausea is caused by food poisoning, it is important to neutralize the poison in order to heal. Charcoal tablets, which can be bought in most health food stores, are very efficient for absorbing harmful agents. In cases that involve vomiting, it is important to take the charcoal tablets just after vomiting to ensure absorption.

Carbonated beverages such as soda are frequently used to suppress morning sickness or nausea associated with stomach flu. It is important to sip slowly in order to avoid further upsetting the stomach. In addition, saltine crackers are often effective for settling the stomach.

Mint is a soothing herb which can help calm and settle the stomach. Peppermint or spearmint tea can be very effective in soothing nausea. Peppermint oil can also be used as an aromatherapeutic cure.

Another old home remedy for nausea is lemon. In some cases, merely smelling a freshly cut lemon can be helpful. Lemon juice mixed into warm water and sipped slowly works as well. Other warm liquids, such as broth, warm milk or tea, can also help to calm the stomach.

If you suffer from frequent nausea due to indigestion, one of the best "home remedies" is to avoid foods and situations that upset the stomach. In order to avoid indigestion-induced nausea, be sure to eat well-balanced meals and include pineapple, papaya, and acidophilus – a friendly bacteria found in yogurt – in your diet. Avoid dairy products, processed foods, and beans. Lastly, eat slowly and chew thoroughly to ensure proper digestion.

Remedy 1. Ginger Milk: Boil 250ml of fresh, whole milk, 25ml of ginger juice (made from crushing fresh ginger) and 25g of brown sugar for 10 minutes. Sip slowly while it's still hot.

Remedy 2. Ginger Water: Put 3 slices of fresh ginger in a cup, add boiling water, and brown sugar to taste. Drink warm. Leave the ginger in the cup and top it up with more water 1 or 2 times throughout the day if necessary.

Remedy 3. Ginger Tea: Put 3 slices of fresh ginger and 2-3 grams of black tea (or a tea bag) in a cup. Add boiling water, then let it steep for several minutes. Drink warm. As above, leave the ingredients in the cup and top it up throughout the day if necessary.

Remedy 4. Pu Er Tea: From Yunnan province in China, and widely available, this tea is highly regarded for its beneficial effects on digestion. It may be used in cases of nausea, vomiting and even obesity. Put 5 or 6 grams in a cup, add boiling water, then let it steep for several minutes. Drink it warm. Re-use it throughout the day, as above.

Remedy 5. Orange Peel: Perhaps the simplest of all these home remedies for nausea, but not necessarily the least effective. Peel an orange and bruise the skin by twisting and crushing it with your fingers. Hold the skin to your nose and sniff the scent.

Powdered cinnamon and sliced ginger work by interrupting nausea signals sent from the stomach to the brain. If you are a herbal tea drinker, simply sprinkle powdered cinnamom on the tea and drink.
