The link below is the 'Bid Retraction' page from the E-Bay website. If you don't correct the bid, you ARE committed to the amount you bid. I don't know is a court would enforce the sale, and the seller would probably understand you error and not push the issue, but why test it?

Firstly, Rebecca is mistaken. You do NOT have to pay. You simply explain to the seller you made a mistake & ask them to Cancel The Transaction. The seller may not be pleased (who can blame them) but there is a standard process for this on ebay and as long as you both remain polite there should be no problems. The seller will get reimbursed their fees provided they follow the process through the Resolution Centre. It is the seller that has to initiate a request to cancel. You agree. They refund. The transaction will be cancelled & neither of you will be able to leave feedback once the transaction is closed. Make sure that you use eBay messaging not email - the help desk can track the messages and assist. Just use the Contact Us feature in the Resolution Centre if you need any help at any time - I've found they will make a good effort to explain 'what to do'! So, if the seller won't issue the Cancel Transaction notice, just get in touch with eBay direct. They will sort it for you!

This does not mean that you are locked into paying that amount. When someone bids against you, ebay will automatically raise your bid, as it has a higher maximum than anyone else's. You only pay whatever is required for you to win the item, not the full amount of your total maximum bid. Have a look on ebay at the bidding guidelines, it's all spelt out there.
If in doubt, there are special circumstances under which a bid can be retracted. Again these are all on the ebay guidelines, so have a look under FAQs and bidding help.

Don't pay it.
Contact seller and explain it.
Retract your bid and close your paypal account and open another.
They have to sue you for the money and most people wont do that on Ebay

Go to the site map. It is in the upper right corner and look for bid retraction. Or you can search the help menu for bid retraction. Enter your reason, correct the price, and you're done!

There is a spot on the main page where you bid and the link states retract bid. That should help you.

See if you can contact ebay about it. I think there is a way to cancel a bid.

I've done this once in the past. I contacted ebay, told them the item number, and told them I made a mistake, and put the period/comma in the wrong place. Ebay took care of it, and I rebid on the item. As long as you explain what happened, and they see for themselves, that should take care of it for you. Hope this helps.

You can withdraw your bid if you made a mistake, but also don't worry as you will only pay one increment more that the next highest bidder and they are unlikely to overbid.
