If u didn't order it with a firewire port there's a good chance it doesn't have one. I have a dimension 8400 top of the line, came with no fire wire port. I did a sound card upgrade myself and new card came with a firewire connection so now I have one. I just purchased a seagate 300gb external harddrive for system backup and it's compatable with firewire or usb interface. I called dell and the tech said use the usb connect as it was faster than firewire. I don't know ur situation but if u can use one of ur usb ports go for it. The difference in speed is 400kbs compared to 480kbs usb being faster.

Do you have a Firewire cable? Look for a port it will fit. Assuming you HAVE a Firewire port, it should either be on the front near any memory card ports, or on the back near the keyboard, mouse, and monitor ports.

There's many different sizes to the Firewire jack. The two most common are 6-pin (the fatter one) and 4-pin (the skinnier one). I am still trying to figure out how to convert one to the other and connect it to a 4-pin jack.

If your computer supports this, then the port would probably be in the expansion cards area on the back.
