Stats or no stats it comes down to Montana or Favre.
Joe Montana had so much poise behind center and made so many clutch plays when his team needed them. Joe also had some great players surrounding him. He made playing QB look very easy.
He played with a ton of pro bowlers and a few hall of famers,
Soooo this is why I give it to Brett Favre. He's never had a Jerry Rice type receiver or a Roger Craig like running back.
Brett's the kind of a guy who made everyone around him better with his rocket arm and never say die attitude. Just when you think a play was over he'd something crazy and find the open guy, usually running one way and throwing across his body to the other side . Or you'd see him throw a fast ball where only his guy could catch it.
Brett was far more exciting to watch than any other in history with his gunslinger play. And that game against the Raiders when his Father had just died is like none I have ever seen.
If you're a true fan of Football there's no way you can't appreciate what Brett has brought to the game for 16 going 17 years. To this day he still acts like a little kid after a TD and nobody has shown more love of the game. Take away all the millions they all get paid and Brett would still be there taking the hits.
Hands down he's the greatest ever.

There is no way of knowing who the best ever is. The reason is that everyone gets drafted into a different situation. If Ryan Leaf had been drafted by the Colts and Manning to the Chargers who knows what would have happened? i guess that's a bad example since both teams were fairly bad when that draft occured. What about a player like Tom Brady. He never would have been discovered if Bledsoe hadnt gotten hurt or if he had been drafted by a different team. Was montana the best? Cant say, could someone else have done better with the same weapons he had? What about Marino? he put up the stats every year but never won anything. What i'm saying is the best quarterback ever could be some 25 year old who works at McDonalds in Wyoming for all we know. Maybe he just didnt get the right situation to succeed.

Some Bozo up above said, "Red Grange." Grange was a RB. The best 5 QBs of all time were:
1. John Unitas
2. Brett Favre
3. Sammy Baugh
4. Joe Montana
5. Johnny Lujack

John Unitas. Every single player he played with revered him. He was quiet, tough, a leader, and every team that played the Colts feared him. It is tough to compare QBs of the last 25 or so years with QBs of old. Play calling has been taken away from the QB. Radio receivers in the helmet. It is such a different game today. In the last 25 years I would nominate Montana, Farve, and Marino.

No question about this one. Sammy Baugh. Not only was he a great quarterback who had a 70% completion rate for a season (an NFL record), but he was an All Pro punter, and a punishing defensive back. None of these other modern ******* (Manning and the like) will ever be able to claim these accomplishments.

I'd say Marino. Name 1 WR Marino had that's in the hall of fame. Montana was the product of a system that fit him perfectly, that's why they drafted him. BUT, he by far had the coolest head under pressure. Elway also pulled his team on his back, but id judged by his last 2 years winning the SB. His career isn't as glamorous. He had a better coach in the latter years with a great system and 2,000 yd. RB. Marino also did all this w/o any famous miracles of fortune either. Like "the catch" or "the drive".
Honorable mention - Warren Moon. Had he not played Canadian for all those years, his total career yards woulda been the record.

the best QB would be Peyton Manning...this is a hard one because Brett Favre is also a great QB and shows that you can play and be good no matter how old you are
