Donnie Baseball is the Greatest 1st baseman to play the game. When his time comes, we will all congratulate him as he walks into Cooperstown. When Torre retires, hopefully he takes the job. he would be a great manager. Above All, Donnie was a player at heart.

Donnie baseball was a great clutch performer. It is sad that he retired before he could get a ring as a player. Let's keep this in mind that he holds a major league record for most grand slams in one season with 6 and also tied Dale Long's record for most consecutive games with a homerun which he hit 7 [10 total during that streak]. He was a flawless first baseman until the back problems forced him to retire .

Donnie Baseball was a great, tough player, too bad his career was shortened. He was unfortunate that he played at the same time with Cal and Wade, Hall of Fame is possible, but still a good career.

He was a great player for a few years; deserved that AL MVP Award.
Then he got injured.
Then he was an average player for the rest of his career.
It happens. Injuries have taken down greater players than he.

Yes, WAS a great player. Now he might make a good (or great, who knows) manager. I'd like to see him replace Joe Torre.

I heard that was the guy that jumped off the balcony and broke some poor sap's neck the other day. Poor guy must be in a slump or something.
