a laptop is a kind of computer. A desktop would be the big one that we used to have before the joy of laptops.

ACTUALLY -- you are correct that a Laptop is a computer (or computing device) .... however ...

Most folks (when talking about their computer) are referring to their Desktop Computing Device -- the thing that can't be folded up, put into a small backpack for use on the road or at school.

It sort of is but I like laptops better cus they're portable.
I have a laptop but, sadly it's in for repair =[ Darn apple juice!!! and broken power supplies!
I'm having to use my brother's computer much to his disgust.

in all sense of the word a LAPTOP is a COMPUTER
but
a laptop is portable where a desktop pc is not

laptop and a desktop I get the desktop my lil sis gets the OLD laptop, my big sis gets the really kwl and NEW laptop
