yes
use log subtraction property
if 2 logs have the same base then:
log(sub)8 16 - log(sub)8 2 = log(sub)8 16/2
Which is
log (sub)8 8 = 1

Assume "log" means log to base 8 in the following:-
log 16 - log 2 = log 16/2 = log 8 = 1

log (sub)8 16 - log (sub)8 2 is really a division problem and can be rewritten as; log (sub)8 (16 / 2) since they are both sub 8. now the answer is 1 whenever the base (sub 8) and the log are the same. log (sub)8 (8).

If I read this properly, you mean
Log to the base 8 of 16 minus log to the base 8 of 2.
The definition of a log is "The power to which the base is raised to equal the number in question".
So the first part of the equation Log base 8 of 16 becomes
1 + Log base 8 of 2.
The second part is - Log base 8 of 2
when you add you get
1 + (Log base 8 of 2) - (Log base 8 of 2)
=1

log_8 16 - log_8 2
= log_8 (16/2)
= log_8 (8)
log(base a) (a) = 1
so log_8 (8) = 1
