Are there parts of the past you would rewind and play back again and again? Are there experiences you would erase altogether. If I could, I would fast forward a few months from now for when a loved-one returns home safely and we can all get on with our lives again. I'm not wishing my life away I'm wishing someone else's to stay. Anyone feel the same way?

Thank you all for your heart-warming answers.
Psychic Cat, Moon and all my contacts, your words meant so much to me because I know you all really mean it. I can’t even explain what I’m going through but I think you already know. Troy you know; you’re going through it too. We’ll get through it. I love you too.
Abiel … welcome my newest fan/contact.
Everyone else, thank you so much for your thoughtful words.

What can I say between the sniffs and tears? It's so wonderful how caring everyone is. Mikey thank you. You've always been a part of our family, always will be. Charlie, we just have to keep telling ourselves 'he'll be okay' and both of you: now you've found me, don't tell everyone what I'm doing when I 'say' I'm working lol (you know I work hard too) and don't tell you-know-who how worried we are for him. We all have to stay positive. I'm sure it'll be okay. x to all.

yep wish we could!
He soon will be half a world away,
but we will think of him each and every single day!
and before we sleep at night
we will send him our thoughts and prayers
which will keep him safe and he will be alright.
and when he returns safe and sound
dad will cook him a scrumptious delight
i know its hard not to cry
for the dreaded day we fear is near,
but in god we put our love and trust,
to return a wonderful father, son, my brother
back home safe to usx
love you mam, home friday yeppeexxxxx
edit: charlie and spiky mike you're setting me off again now stop it or i will be crying all day xx
and to everyone else who replies to this i thank you all aswellxx

Yes. There are many moments I would play over and over again...
But there are also things I regret... anyone who says they have no regrets I typically find kind of.. hmm... conceited? Everyone has been mean or unkind to another person at some point of their life, perhaps unintentionally... so if I could I would try to go back and take back the times when I was rude to others even when I didn't realize it at the time... and there are a few other things I'd erase which I'll only describe as "emotionally abusive relationship".... yes all events have shaped me, but some have shaped me in ways I really wish they hadn't...
As for fast forwarding, I would NEVER do that... I usually hate Adam Sandler movies but Click was... well, okay, it still wasn't a very good movie, but it was a brilliant idea...
EDIT:
Psychic Cat, everyone makes mistakes. When someone says they have no regrets it sounds, to me, like that person thinks that they have made NO mistakes, which I find conceited...
And saying that hurt is the other person's choice... I find that a bit conceited too. If you shoot someone, hurt is not their choice. If you call someone a name, it is natural for them to be hurt; it is not their choice. I was in an emotionally abusive relationship; if I had my choice I wouldn't have cared about the things he said to me... but as it is, I can't control my emotions when it comes to hurt. I will always have a scar from that incident in my past, and if I could I would erase it... it has shaped me yes, but only in harmful ways....
I think if you were a victim of rape, or if you were in a war in which you witnessed your family being murdered before your eyes, or if some other awful, awful experience happened to you... you would most likely change your mind....

Yes, Polly, I would, all three. :)
The fast forward part is what sounds less appealing to me, but it could be interesting. Rewind parts of my life, and revive some very special moments, would be wonderful! :)
But what I would really LOVE to be able to do was to erase a few things, and a few people. I know they helped to shape who I am today and all that but, hey, I'd rather be a little lighter, for not having had them in my life. :)
Hope your loved one stays safe and well, and will be back home soon! All the best to all the family! :)

I would not want to fast forward my life, not even 5 minutes. I dont know why, but I'd feel like I was throwing a part of my life away. But I do see the point of your opinion.
If I could go back in time before my life, I would go to the time they say jesus was alive during. Then to midevil times. After that I would go to the 30's and 50's. Or maybe I'd go back and have tea with Davinci.

watch the films 'the butterfly effect' or 'click'. it could be a very dangerous thing. but in the metaphorical sense yes i would definately but only small parts of my life like i would fast forward a day at work or rewind a great day out or a nice meal i had. i would definately erase some of the bad things but wouldnt all of us? sometimes youve just got to let things go as they are and you can even learn from your experiences, thats what life is all about! x

"...returns home safely..." I can understand why you'd want to fast forward. I didn't think you were "wishing your life away." I've never really thought of either one. You can replay parts past, in memory, whenever you wish. Sometimes they are more rich over time. I like where I am, so I wouldn't want to fast forward. Actually, not sure what I'd be fast forwarding to! But in your situation, I can only say that I hope with all of my heart that your loved one returns safely.
Edit: arfblat--Anyone who says they have no regets? Why would this be "conceit?" I have none, but this is because I know there's harmony in everything experienced, in all my "phases" & that if anyone was "hurt" by my actions or lack of them, my choices were made with care & thoughtfulness. The hurt is the choice of reaction of the other. Please don't "assume" everyone has regrets or is conceited (or in denial).
Edit: arfblat: Everyone is entitled to their "opinion." Your analogies have virtually nothing to do with what I expressed. I have never "shot" anyone or called them a "name," which could, of course, qualify as a "regret" because I would have caused the hurt. You need to look a little deeper into what I said. #2. Experiencing rape, or war would quite naturally hurt, but if I'm not the rapist, or created the war, I'd have done nothing to regret. You seem to be confusing justified regrets with hurt. Perhaps when you have spent some time in practice, you'll realize there are no absolutes. In the meanwhile, I'm sorry you were in an abusive relationship; the person who abused you SHOULD have regrets. Please don't let this influence you about others.

Absolutely agree. It would be wonderful when you are getting nostalgic to be able to rewind. And of course the unpleasant parts would be fast forwarded. I don't think that erasing would be as advantageous because I believe every experience shapes us whether positive or negative.

Absolutely. I wish every single part of my life I could rewind. Like when I was a kid I lived in Baltimore and a person threw me a gingerbread cookie. It was a Christmas Day Parade and I was so happy. And I also wona fish at the carnival

Ya, i'd love to rewind and replay the times when i had my best friends with me, before i moved away, wen i was really small and my grandpa was alive... I really miss those times.
Maybe i would also like to erase all the embarassing parts and all the wrong things i've done..
I hope your loved one comes home soon.
Have a nice day!!
God bless you!!

Polly, so much can be said philosophically & psychologically~subjectively of course~about what they would or wouldn't choose. I was impressed by Psychic Cat who comprehensively explained regret & hurt, yet had "feelings" about your situation. That is all I'll express. I care very deeply about what you must be feeling, & far too many like you. OF COURSE, I would want to "fast forward" if I were you. I hope for safe return...& the joy you'll have when you're re-united. Except for a few, it seemed what you're going through was rather by-passed by eagerness to express opinions. My VERY best to you both.
