You don't need to be taller than 5'3"

You just need to be smart and fast and willing to go through a little pain to get that first prize.

there's no way to make yourself taller... and lifting weights are not going to stunt your growth!! hard training is essential.. I'm not sure where you live or how popular wrestling is in your state.. but if you do some research you can find a lot of great wrestling camps... I have four brothers and a father that was a wrestler, most schools have "conditioning" during the summer and it always was a great way to train for them. Most of the time you HAVE TO attend (especially during the summer) but I recommend going any and every chance you get -- also, The juniors and seniors are some times intimidating, but, find one who does well on the mats and isn't a jerk. Some guys would be glad to help, they think if it as a way to pass on their knowledge. If you can contact the coach he could probably help you decide what your strength's and weakness are (during conditioning) or a previous coach -- be open minded to constructive criticism. there are lots of aspects to wrestling in addition to strength you'll have to work on like endurance, speed, balance and mental strength (like knowing what to do when someone has you in a certain position)
And yes, you will grow taller.. men continue to grow until about 21.... but Height has nothing to do with wrestling or ability... the main concern should be an appropriate weight for your Height. BEST OF LUCK THIS NEXT SEASON. you can't win them all, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to.
p.s. don't let people give you crap about wrestling (yes i know they wear singlets)-- what other sport is there that is solely dependent on your performance? as much as everyone likes being part of a team... team is for training.... when your on the mat it's just you and him... and no one else to blame. what other sport demonstrates your true skill and physical abilities?

There are some moves that work for wrestling better for smaller guys than larger ones. Take for example many of the escapes, switches, climbing the ladder, shots even. the closer to the ground the harder to protect. Wrestle and Run as if that is all you have to do for the whole summer. There is nothing better to build muscles for wrestling than wrestling itself, also running helps you last longer in the match. I was terrible one summer i dedicated myself to this regime and i went to varsity, one more summer longer same thing i made it to the regions in NJ. Second in county, second in district. Focus on moves made for your body they are out there.
