As long as there is light on, they will hide
Plecos are night active
You will see them coming out when you turn off the light in the evening, that's the time they will start looking for their food

You're suppose to turn of the light at night for 12-14 hours and leave it on for 10-12 hours during the day

Hope that helps

Pleco are nocturnal. A good way to observe them during the day is to replace your bulbs with red ones. Of course this won't work if you have live plants, but it has been proven that nocturnal fish will seemingly go about the day as if it is night with red bulbs.
Another thing you could do is put more ornaments in the tank...plants, large rocks, and driftwood is a must with Pleco. Driftwood helps aid their digestion.

You have got fish that are often nocturnal so I would suggest you try some additions to that tank, although I don't know the size, try barbs, danios or live-bearers as these are confident fish. Feed your fish at a particular point in the day when you want them to come out, eventually this usually pays off. You could turn the light off when you want to watch them, but I recommend extend the period when lights are off, in the early evening and late morning.

well then if there hidding behind a plant put the plant somewere else or take the plant out so they wont hide. or just put in a bigger fish that wont eat them like a goldfish. goldfish chase fish to eat there waste they dont eat fish. so you get to see your fish running away. or take your fish back and buy golfish they hide only sometimes when there doing there waste. Gold fish are the best!!
