i want to be able to free up space by moving my itunes library to an external HD is ip possible and will it still sync with my ipod?

I want to be able to have my i tunes library only on the External HD is it possible and will it sync right with my ipod

I actually did this, too, a few weeks ago. I lost some of my playlists. So I went to the apple support site and found this:

yea all my songs are on external hard drive but just make sure that each time u connect ur external hd it has the same drive letter , like the first time u connet and it was assigned E: and u added all the songs to ur itunes library , then it should always be E: each time u remove it and connect it back or else it will not sync.

it is all possible to move files to an external using a usb port on the computer.
