Johnny Bench, Yogi Berra, and Roy Campanella would beg to differ.

Close but Johnny Bench is widely regarded as the best ever 10 gold gloves 14 all star games 389 home runs 1376 RBI's .990 career feilding percentage career OPS of .880 2 MVP's and 2 rings in 17 years. Pudge's stats look like 12 gold gloves and 14 allstars 285 home runs 115 rbi's .990 fielding OPS of .823 1 MVP and 1 ring in 17 years. There stats are really close but remember this bench did it when there were far fewer teams so better talent top to bottom on most rosters.

One of the best catchers of all time (Josh Gibson) never played in the Bigs.

Of those i've seen it is a tough choice between Bench and I-Rod. If we go just by the numbers, I-Rod is gonna take it. Better hitter and a stronger throwing arm.

What Bench did better than any other catcher isn't easily captured by stats. No one knew how to pitch to opposing batters as well and he was a master at handling his own pitchers.

No. I-Rod is a heck of a talent, but no one has approached the career achievements of Yogi Berra or Johnny Bench. Hands down, those are the two best catchers in the history of the game in their respective leagues.

I-Rod is an amazing catcher but you have to look at some of the greats. Yogi Berra, Johnny Bench.

Almost, If Bench wasn't such a ledgend, Ivan would be #1,
But the Big Red Machine wont allow him to replace bench as the all-time great
