Don't buy a telescope from eBay!! Most of the telescopes sold there are total junk, and, as a beginner, you don't know enough to tell the difference. Look in the Yellow Pages for a local telescope store; failing that, buy from an established online dealer like Orion, OPT, Astronomics, Anacortes, High Point, etc. I'd not recommend anything smaller than 6" aperture. Dobsonians are an excellent choice, as they offer decent aperture on very solid mounts for a reasonable price.

Where is the best place to buy an inexpensive telescope in Texas? The best place to buy cheap Telescopes online is at Amazon.com who have a massive collection to choose from at amazing prices from a website you can trust.

If you are just starting out then remember that the most popular telescopes for beginners are 2.4 inch (60mm) and 3.1 inch(80mm) refractors and 4.5 inch and 6 inch reflectors.

You can buy a new 6" reflector telescope for around $200 including shipping charges on Ebay. That is by far the best deal I have seen for a decent telescope. I have a 2.5" refractor right now that I bought for a hundred dollars at hobby lobby. The moons of Jupiter are great and all but I need something bigger and better. Hope you find a good deal. Good luck!

I don't know about "inexpensive" but if you're near the Houston area, you should check out Land, Sea, and Sky (Texas Nautical Repair). They have a wide variety of Meade, Celestron, Takahashi, and others.

Focus first on the size of telescope you can reasonably expect to physically handle and use. That's why it's a good idea to go to an actual retailer, as opposed to eBay. You can actually touch and lift the scopes (if they'll let you :) ). When you're not sure what you want, what you'll use, or what's best for your needs, online shopping is the LAST route you should go.

Your best bet is to go on the Internet to
ebay.com
do searches for 8 Inch Reflector Telescope, etc., etc.
that should put you in a good position to pick out what you want. Go for the largest reflector telescope you can afford.
