Having served in the Army over there in that **** hole they call a country, there would be even more murders and torturing taking place every night than there is now. We have to be honest, they as a people, are not prepared to govern for themselves. The entire Middle East is nothing short of a train wreck. Saudi Arabia is a U.S. ally, but executes (beheadings) like crazy. I have no respect for anyone over there except out military people.

I suppose You mean what would happen to Iraq, or other hostile areas of the world, If America and its allies suddenly stopped contributing in any way to their country? No Military support, no economic aid, no humanitarian aid, no trade, no help whatsoever. In the case of Iraq it will crumble in a matter of weeks or months. The sectarian violence will escalate to all out civil war encompassing the entire country. Iran will use this as excuse to enter Iraq to "establish peace" and begin their stated goal of rebuilding the Persian Empire. If America and its Allies did nothing Iran would build a power base that would be nearly impossible to unseat and control most of the world's oil supply. But they would have few trading partners. Their technology would be second rate and they would continually have to use the threat of war to gain resources that they need. China and Russia can provide a lot of those needs but without contact with the west they would be at best a second world nation. But They will probably develope nuclear weapons and they are state sponsors of terrorism. So the risks of a hands off strategy are many. The benefits are few. In other places like Africa, China, Southeast asia, where conflict is not so violent and tensions so high, witholding aid would be a viable strategy if you could withstand the criticism of the Human Rights Watch. When we withdraw from an area it is the poorest who will suffer first. Those in power will not feel the sting until much later. If we hoped to influence policy shift then we would have to be willing to let the entire country suffer, and not cave in to criticism before they break. America is soft when it comes to our image and the world knows it. We like to be the good guys so they call us the villains. It is a blow to our morale, makes us question what we are doing.

They would be happy at first. Then the civil wars would begin. Eventually a strong leader would take over the entire region and then that person would realize he had no one to sell oil to, he would keep that from his own people as long as possible but eventually war would break out again, this cycle would go on and on for a long period, the oil would eventually run out any way, and a primitive nomadic society would develop. Slowly over thousands of years that society would move from the Middle East Across the world, some where in the rich fields of Greece a society based on democracy would begin to grow while in the equally rich and better protected area around the city of Rome a great power would arise, and the whole cycle would begin again
(Barring of course divine intervention)
(People forget that the Kuwait Oil Fields are excepted to run dry at current usage in 80 years, the Saudi oil fields in 100 and the rest of the middle east some where in that period. 80 Years is a single life time. Like Global Warming and 50 years the need to find an alternative to oil, instead of fighting wars over it IS NOW)

the answer to that is easy. look what happened when the russians left afganistan. the warring factions in iraq hate each other and will fight until one tribe is dominant. they will NOT live peacefully. Look at Lebenon, Hammas and the PLO and the government.
The US created the problem in iraq by not having any plan. Big Daddy told junior not to go in because it was not winable (if you recall Bush 41 was in the CIA before he was VP). Well, the proof is in the pudding and no matter what happens there the outcome will NOT be what 43 either wanted or hoped for. It won't be what ANY of us hoped for.

There would be dancing in the streets, the civil war would continue, and they'd eventually end up with the government they deserve.

I think they would be relieved!
Maybe then you could walk down a street without getting wasted!
The Green Zone reminds me a lot of Cam Rahn Bay in Vietnam, until they got hit!

All the libs and bleeding hearts would run in circles and have fits because they wouldn't have anything to harp on and they would actually have to do something constructive for a change, including questioners like you .
