It seems that you are poor. Spend about two years at your local community college. Don't worry about paying for it, the FAFSA from the government will pay for it. After you have about two years learning experience, try to transfer to another school (most Comm. Coll's aren't four-year, so you may have to). Once you have a four-year degree, regardless of what major it is, you can virtually get a job anywhere.

You're lucky, at your young age, screwing up big is not going to ruin your entire life (unless you let it).
Living with your grandparents is an excellent way to save money and give you some time to figure out where you want to go next.
Sit down with a notebook and start writing some things out - like what makes you happy, what makes you unhappy. Really do some soul searching - you might think money makes you happy, but what it really does is make you feel secure, or more important, or allow you to buy things, etc.
Figuring out what makes you happy can help you focus on what career can get you there.
Even if you're good at science, if a science career gives you long hours at low pay - and what makes you happy is money and time to travel - then these are not compatible!
Once you figure out that happy spot, then start looking for ways to get there. Finding a mentor who's already where you want to be is an excellent start. If no one's available, then check out low-cost career counselling services.
Whatever you do, be sure to suck it up and stay frugal until you can pay off your debts.
For a short term solution, check with your local UPS center to see if they are hiring part-time morning loaders. Although you have to get up really early, you're out of there by 9am, and can make room for classes or another job. Pay is good after awhile (you can make as much in 4 hours as you do now in 8 hours), and benifits are incredible.

Congratulations! You've finally done the math. You just tried to grow up too fast for the real world. You're only two years behind the traditional age for going to college. That would be your best bet, and full time too. The problem is not so much tuition, but lost income if you go full time. If your grandparents are willing to continue to put you up for four years room and board, save enough for a year's tuition, then quit and go for it. Work over the summer break for next year's tuition. If they see you're committed to it, they'll probably agree. If you can't get room and board level support, you'll need to work part time, and take a non-traditional track that will accommodate that. Zillions of people do that, and most schools have programs to accommodate them (evening classes, etc). It'll just take longer.

Why are you working for 8 bucks an hour? What did you work for before and were you making more money (assuming you did make more money because you owned a house and a car)?
If you are willing to invest a lot of your time (and youth) into the field of Science you can make it. I suggest interning, working or at least volunteering in a hospital setting so you know what you will be dealing with in the future. If want to become a scientist doing research, you will have to spend even more money to go to school for at least 9 years.

No... The problem with the science field is that you HAVE to have a degree (or at least 10-15 years of experience). I am assuming that you have not been working in a lab since the age of 10. So, bottom line, you are going to have to go to college and get at least a B.S. and more than likely, depending on what you would like to do, a PhD.

Its never too late to succeed in what you want to do. Did you go to/finish college? If not, start off by taking some science classes at your local community college. If you did finish college, try throwing out some resumes at some places you would like to work.
