Some of the 327's had a high compression ratio which made them hard to beat! The downside of higher compression is the need for higher octane gas.

No bad or ugly...... the 327 was Chevys best engine, but they opted for the bigger CI 350 and the 350 carried on for many years.... the 327 has the same bore as the 350 but the stroke is smaller, so the 327 revs higher. IMO the 327 is an awesome engine and better than the 350.... or any other chevy SB engine.

The chevy 327 has a 4.00 bore and 3.25 stroke, the '327' is actually a 326.73 ci, for the most part is the same as the 350, which has a 4.00 bore, but a 3.48 stroke.

in general these are great motors, just as the 350, the 327's were used in almost everything, they ran forever, heck i got a 1987 Chevy 1-ton dually 3+3 cab, with a 327 3spd stick and about 400k+ mi on it, its slow, but it pulls like a train

there is no real bad things about the 327 thay are a good small block strong and not bad on fuel thay were dezined ariganoly chevy 2&3 ton trucks so you know it will last the only thing thats a disadvatage is the heads are noy drilled & taped for brakets. but its no big deal too gange the heads with a newer stial to fix that you can buy all the brakets for any aftermarket acceserys you mite add ie. a/c ps.
hope this helps ya out. Brad

Outstanding small block..first there was the 283, basically same block and motor then the 327. depending on the year and type of vehicle it was in some were very strong for the cubic inches. long lasting motor if taken care of, and highly modifiable. But theres not alot left, so I wouldnt try to push it too hard..take it easy on it and keep it around a long time.

GM has re released the 327 in their current crop of fullsized pickups. It is listed as the 5.3L V8 and puts out higher hp and torque than the 350/5.7L put out, and is more efficient mileage wise.

They are good engines. chevy used them for years until it grew into the 350.
