The U.S. Version was adapted from the original BBC version (U.K.). The pilot of the U.S. version is almost word for word the same as the pilot of the U.K. version. There have been many versions since the BBC one, there is one in France and Canada I belive. go to www.wikepedia.com and type in The Office, they have a lot fo good info!

The Office was created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. The first was the UK version, which was initially broadcast on BBC Two on 9 July 2001 and ran for two seasons plus a two-part Christmas special. The show's success prompted NBC to create an American version, which premiered on March 24, 2005, an entire two years after the original ended

The UK, and NOTHING is more annoying than people who pretend to be hip and/or snobby by being like "Sure, I like the Office but the original version is SO much better" and then they give a smug laugh.

England. This version is made by Rick Gervais, the same dude that did Shaun of the Dead and He was in Night At the Museum.

Yeah, we'll have that.
though to correct one of the other answers Ricky Gervais had nothing to do with Shaun of the dead. That was Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright who were responsible for a different UK cult comedy series 'Spaced' ( which i, personally, prefer)
