My water only broke with one of my kids but when it first happened I thought I peed on myself too LOL. Like someone else said if there is liquid still coming out when you stand up, then it almost certainly was your water that broke. It can sometimes just start as a trickle though so don't use that to determine things! If you keep leaking, in any amount, it was probably your water.
On a side note, I wouldn't automatically rush to the doctor. I walked around for a little while until contractions started going pretty good and then we went to the hospital. By the time we got there I was 7cm dialated and was only there about an hour and a half before my son was born!!! (much easier that laying in a hospital bed for hours and hours). BE CAREFUL though because once labor starts it ususally goes quick with no water bag to cushion things.

You only get that dramatic "movie scene" gush if the bag breaks at exactly the right spot. What happens more often than not, is when your water bag (or whatever it's called, lol) tears further away from the opening, and you'll just have it leaking out here and there. Or like in your case, just "more going on" than normal.
I would recommend calling your doctor immediately! He'll most likely request you go to the hospital. They'll take a little swab down there to see if it's in fact your water that has broken, or if it was just..something else. (Lots of liquids during pregnancy! haha)
Once your water breaks, they usually like the baby to be delivered within 24 hours, and since your full term, that would definitley be the case!
Congratulations! And good luck!

It's probably a leak and did not fully rupture. A leak will continue to flow. Take a clean q-tip or tampon and insert it just to the opening of the vagina Don't shove it in ! if it has that ammonia smell it's likely pee. When I would nap sometimes I would tinkle a little. But if it smells like fruity sweet smell then it's probably your water and you should call the doc. because you can go into labor soon anyway after water leaks or breaks completely.

Mine broke while in the hospital with my second son. If your water did break its not like urine you cant hold it in. No matter what you do it will keep tricking out. It shouldnt smell... unfortunatly you'll have to check that. Wear a pad and then if anything collects on it smell it... i know it sounds nasty but its sometimes hard to tell at 38 weeks weather your leaking some urine or your waters are slowly leaking.

When my water broke, I was sleeping. I thought I had peed the bed. When I stood up, there was a steady trickle that I couldn't control. Then a few minutes later, while I was on the phone with my doctor, there was a rush of fluid that I couldn't control. Really heavy. Call your doctor and have them check you out just to make sure everything is ok.

I was lying in bed and started to feel like I was peeing my pants. But I could not control it. I started feeling really embarassed because there was a lot of people at the house and I was thinking ,"Great I just peed my pants and have to go in front of all these people with my wet pants." So I stood up to go to the bathroom and the floodgates opened and I knew then that my water broke.

It can be anything from a trickled to a gush. With my daughter it was like a floodgate opening but if the baby's head is blocking or sealing the cervix it can just trickle out. I would call the Dr to be sure since you're so close to due date.

I woke up and thought I had peed myself. Any amount of liquid down "there" is cause to go to the emergency room now. Call your Dr. to meet yu there. 38 weeks! Go girl go!
Best of luck.

When your water breaks it doesn't gush out, sometimes it just trickles very slowly. You can check by looking and smelling. It should be pale, straw-colored and smell sweet. Urine will have a very strong acidic odor and your normal pregnancy discharge will be thicker.
