clean it out with air. a smoke alarm works by a thin strip of a special metal. when the solid particles in smoke collect in a certain concentration in the charged piece of metal then the alarm goes off if the charged piece of metal gets clogged with dust it will also go off. if you clean and it still goes off get a new one. 9 bucks

Alot of smoke alarms have an expiration date sticker on the inside. Usually if the smoke alarm is around 10 years old is best to be replaced especially if it is in an area where heat and smoke is common *Kitchens, bathrooms, smoking bedrooms or living rooms* There is no way to fix this that I know of considering that it is the smoke sensing compounds in the detector that goes bad.

I had the same problem with mine. I have 3 alarms on the same electric circuit. Upon replacing the batteries in all alarms on the circuit, push the "test" button on ALL of the smoke alarms on the circuit. That should resolve your problem. Until you do, they will continue to beep intermittently.

If the new battery is good....seems the smoke alarm isn't.

Don't fire departments give these away for free - around here they do. Sometimes it is time for a change, "out with the old and in with the new" Put the dying beast to rest, get a new one, why would you want to keep it if you know it is malfunctioning - you can't be sure it will save your life..

It is shorting out from dust. Use the canned oxygen they use to clean keyboards and pc boards.
Buy a brand new battery and now you have coverred all variables so if it still beabs it is defective.

The battery you put in may have been bad. I would just get another alarm, they aren't that expensive. good luck.
