Usually the male will go through a courtship of some sort, be it a visual display like dancing, having colorful feathers or something of that nature or they will have audio and scent based stimulus in hopes that their display will please a female or a group of females to the point where they will be accepted as a proper mate.

From there on, its pretty self explanatory. =)

Usually sexual reproduction. There are a few that reproduce asexually, like sponges.
