Sweet! I just made it to Level Three. Now my only problem is becoming a Top Contributor. I have 30% best answers, and most are in Physics...how do I become a TC?!

Thanks to everyone who answered...i'll use your advice wisely (especially the tip on sheath-type questions, lol). The questions in Phy are pretty weak, mainly homework problems, so mabye i'll try later. Thanks again.

I think it has more to do with how many questions you answer, than with how many best answers you get.
I was a Top Contributor in Physics for a while, with only around 25% best answers. I worked at answering fewer but more difficult questions (I'd answer any physics question with DE, for example), and raised my percent of best answers to 40%, but lost my badge in so doing.
Now, obviously you have to keep up a minimum percent of best answers. But this formula upset me, and so I've mostly retired from Yahoo Answers, and kept to tutoring physics at local colleges.
But congratulations, no less! And good luck!

TC comes and goes. If you go to the Yahoo Answers category, you will find their explanation...which is no explanation at all. Fundamentally they say it depends on a lot of factors, but in the end, it's up to the Yahoo Answers staff to decide if you get TC or not.
I've been in and out of TC in physics several times. When I find the physics questions to be weak, I go on to answer other categories and lose my TC in physics classification. When the physics questions get real again, I usually get my TC classification back again after a couple of weeks answering physics questions.

Keep on giving good answers in Physics. (Leave out the sheath types)
Dont quite know Yahoo's logic, but it appears quite magically. Be warned, it is addictive, you will want more categories soon.

I have no idea what the formula is. I don't think Yahoo has even defined it publicly. The FAQ on it is quite vague. I have noticed, though, that it disappears if you've been inactive in the given catagory.

Just keep on keepin' on..! TC is pretty much based on the number of questions you answer, not necessarily if they're voted best or not.

Well I was magically one in Geology one day. I guess because you get a lot of best answers in one section. I'm not sure how they do it but apparently they can take it away too. One day I logged on and my awesome little orange label was gone.
