ipod IS an mp3 player. Its just that the ipod is the MOST popular mp3 player.
heres an example: When people ask for a tissue, they usually ask for a "kleenex". The kleenex is the most popular brand

i don't think there is a difference... ipod is an mp3 player but it can also play other formats so does the mp3 player...

they are the same thing. ipod is just a brand name. mp3 is more of a generic name that covers the other brands out there.
mp4 is the version that plays music and movies... ipod has that feature too.

i guess they're pretty much the same, but it seems that ipod has more appeal to it, and depending on which ipod you get, like ipod video, you have extra features, like games, videos, and theres like a photo albums, calendar, clock, and other little things like that.
