I don't have a scientific answer to this question, however, I have had some pretty crazy dreams. I think the fear of our dreams comes from the the desire to want to understand dreams. The human being is always trying to solve something. Problems, situations, things like that. Why not try to solve dreams? We tend to think, in my opinion, that dreams come from memory and when you have nightmares that can be a scary thing. How can I remember such a horrible thing thats never happend? So my answer to your question is simply this. People are afraid of dreams because we honestly have no idea where the hell they came from.
