...and be able to think in our heads.

In a sense... It may be that we are always "thinking;" there are reactions that are occurring, that are being perceived, which is what you hear in your head..

An answer to this question is probably most the matter of opinion. I would say it may have to do with ones own perception, and what you have experienced through life, the schema's you've put up for yourself..

On a tangent, do take in to account the large area's which deal with associating sound: the temporal lobes. I think as humans we have a need to perceive what we are feeling; maybe different (chemical) reactions we are feeling. What we find so readily available are the schema's we have built for ourselves, perceiving things in a familiar way throughout our lives. Here we have created algorithms of association where the visual cortex, temporal lobes... can be used to create vivid thought (sight, sound...)

So is though a learned behavior?

"you dont actualy hear a physical voice in your head, your actualy wrong there"

Well, maybe you don't hear voices in your head, but I do all the time. In fact, right now they're saying something about actually having two L's in it.

The same way we hear external sounds...

The ear converts sound to electrical signals that are sent to the brain and we process those as "sound." Our brain also transfers electrical signals, as such, from different portions of our brain to others. We inturpurt them as the same "sound." Thus we "hear" our thoughts.

g-day!

We don't, think of something and you are actually talking to yourself.

Your inner consciousness is the ability to think and make decisions.

Well that is how I see it
