Only if the driver was committing a crime and getting away; you tell the cops and they are the only ones who can find out who he or she is and they will not tell you. It is an invasion of privacy.

Ali This kind of thing is asking for big troubles to hit you and teach you a lesson,It's illegal to do this unless you have an accident with them,all of our police departments never reveal any information about people through their license plates to the general public.Why did the privacy act pass through our government? What protections were enacted by our leaders towards the general public even now today? Most likely no. It would be an invasion of privacy. The police or DMV have that capability, but the average citizen does not.
