Fascist has to do with authoritarian, the opposite of fascist is anarchist. Socialism has to do with government control of business, the opposite of which is capitalism. So technically both are true, he was a fascist socialist, he used socialism to take control and fascism to keep it.

Hitler was head of a party called the national socialist party. The meaning of this is that the populations were in service of the state rather that that the state is in service of the population. Though both are called socialists their purpose is directly opposite.

Fascism "A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism"
The two terms are NOT mutually exclusive.
Hitler was CLEARLY socialist, but he could have been fascist as well.

His party was called the national socialists but he was what we would decribe as a fascist in style. Fascism can mean any authoritarian, exteme right wing, form of government.

Hitler was the definition of fascism, which is characterized by emphasizing and empowering "us"... the "good" guys over "them" ... the "other" ... those who are socially expendable. Socialism, at least in terms of lip service, seeks an only "us" society. And to a lesser degree the "us and them" message of Hitler is the same that comes from the present White House. Down with Dictator Dumbya!!!

Both. He was the result of the successful effort made by European intellectuals to remove God and Christianity from the public sphere over there. The other results include Marx, Communism, Mussolini, Socialism, Fascism, Post-modernism, and the mass importation of Islam into Euro-stan.
Now they are really going to "catch it"
If the Left and the ACLU have their way over here, we're next.

He was a right wing fascist, so he was everything but socialist. Don't let yourself get fooled by the name of the Party.
