I am hooking up a light and the instructions tell me to hook up the power supply to a fused 12v source. What is a fused 12v power source? Do I go to the fuse box or splice it in somewhere?

all it means is a 12 volt power source that you can verify that has a fuse on it ,and is protected, there are a few on the fuse panel that are fused that you could hook it to,or you can splice it in,and use an in line fuse for it that works just as good, and this way you know exactly where the fuse if when it blows, good luck on it hope this helps.

A fused source is just that. A 12V source with a fuse in the line. The trouble with that is you may not know what amperage that it is fused at. You don't want a 50A fuse on a circuit that carries only 1A. A good idea is to find a source and then get a couple of butt splices and an in-line fuse and install the fuse into the line that feeds the light. The light should tell you the amperage draw of the light, so you'll know what size wire and fuse to buy. good luck.

You splice in somewhere downstream of the fuse box, preferably to a light source electrical wire.

It means a 12V source that is protected by a fuse.

most cars have an unused supply port in the fuse box. hook to that and be sure to use the right size fuse.

its best if you get a power source direct from the battery and put a fuse in line usually 20amp but look it up for your item also if you have new vehicle i would check with an electrical shop.
