State songs?

Question

Just watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and when they did a show in Oklahoma, people spontaneously burst into the song "Oklahoma." Do people do that with their own songs all over the States? What's YOUR State song - the one that everybody knows.?

Also for my fellow Brits, would this work over here? Would "Oklahoma" work if it was set in Kent? Would it work in Chelmsford? Do we have any regional songs over here? Name 'em and sing 'em...

being from oklahoma, personally i cant remember ever just bursting out and singing the song, the song is actually from the musical "oklahoma" most okies know more words of "boomer sooner" than they do oklahoma i think.

I don't think many people actually know the words or that this is even the state song.........more than likely they know the Bee Gees "Massachusetts" or Arlo Guthries' "Massachusetts"
