I just bought a 1997 Chevy Cavalier and when I got it there was a brand new battery. I've had it now for about 2 weeks and today I noticed that when I would accelerate over 1000 rpms the battery light would come on. I didn't think much of it but after driving around for awhile I noticed my interior lights getting dim so I started to head home. By the time I got home my car and battery had died. I'd really appreciate if anyone can tell me whats going on.

There are two things that can cause this. One the battery has a shorted cell. Two the alternator output has dropped below 12 volts. You should also check the drive belt if loose you could need a belt tensioner.Good luck with your cavalier.

Sounds like your alternator is not putting out & you were running on your battery power all the time.Take it to a shop & have your charging system tested.Good luck

you need to check to see if your alternator belt is tight , battery cable ends are tight and have your alternator check to see how many amps its putting out
