My friend wanted me to bring the sims 2 to hers to go on but I lost the orginial disc. I do have most of the expansion packs and those discs, if I copied the Sims folders in programme files and my documents and put it onto hers would it work?
Thanks!

No - you can transfer the contents of the My Documents part of the game and have your friend's game with your neighbourhoods and custom content but transferring over the game files won't work. You have to INSTALL the game to make it work, not just copy the files. This means entries in the registry as the first poster said. The folders and files in My Documents are your personal files for the game (your neighbourhoods, your sims, your custom content), the folders and files in Program Files are the game files - you should never, BTW, try to change or alter these in anyway unless you really know what you are doing.

If you lost your CD but had registered your game when you bought it, you can get a new copy for a much reduced price. If you go to the main Sims website, it tells you how to ask for one under the help section.

I've got the Sims2 and several of it's expansion packs, and I've transferred my game from one computer to another before. It's quite easy to do. You wil need though, the base game disk in order to install the game. The only thing copying the files will do is just that, copy your game files. In other words, you're copying the game as it is saved, so if you were to install in on another computer, and copied over the files after the install, you can keep playing as you were on your original computer.

If you lost your disk for the base game, you'll have to buy either a new copy of the game or go onto the Sims2.com site and order a replacement copy for around $13 plus shipping. There is also more information on the site about saving your game to a disk, or several.

There are many reasons that this will not work, as the program has to be in the registry. You may be able to do a online search and find a place where you can download the game and install it, of course you would need your cd-key. (assuming this game has one) For example my computer died, so i built a new one, but used my old hard drive. Every Program i had on the drive had to be reinstalled.
