I have heard that using diamagnetic forces and rare earth magnets I can make things or magnets levitate. I have the rare eath (neomydium) magnets. What are some houshold items that I can use to make somthing hover (whether it be a magnet or an object). Really want to levitate somthing. Help Please. P.S. I know that this question is vague and not very well asked, but Please, I need answers.

You could also get some of the ceramic material used for low temperature superconductors. Your best source for liquid nitrogen is probably a dermatologist who uses it to remove warts. But have some experiments ready to do before getting the LN2, since it readily evaporates.

Yes - that is a well proven fact. However, it is difficult to keep the other part floating. That has a tendency to slip "over the edge" and away to the side so to say. It needs careful alignment, positioning of the magnets to achieve a steady state of levitation where the opposing magnetic lines of force are angled at 45* inward for max stability and hight re the levitating platform on top.

The best magnets for that application are cylindrical magnets like 1/2" x 2". They are easier to handle...... but any will do. One magnet at the bottom will not do. You need a ring of at least six equally spaced apart at the bottom for a stable configuration - and a minimum of three for the floating top platform part which has to be considerably smaller in diameter. This is important so the floating platform can not escape over the edge of the bottom ring of magnets.

A magnet lover.......

Have fun!
