and he refuses too. - how will conservatives and republicans and americans react?

This was about democracy and freedom right?

And is the democracy we gave them - conditional on what they do with it?

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari warned earlier this week of civil war and the government's collapse if the Americans leave now. We say in full confidence that we are able, God willing, to take the responsibility completely in running the security file if the international forces withdraw at any time they want."
They are willing because of the congressional pressure growing for a withdrawal and the Bush administration on the most vital of a series of political benchmarks it wants al-Maliki to carry out.

Why would you assume that he will refuse? When .....

The interim report released this week finds that the Iraqis have made satisfactory progress in eight areas -- such as providing the three brigades they promised for the surge, establishing joint security stations in Baghdad neighborhoods, and providing $10 billion of their own money for reconstruction. That are creating the conditions that will allow our troops to begin coming home.

It sounds like a request for the U.S. to leave may come sooner than we think. Al Maliki says Iraq can manage without the U.S. except for arms and money and further training. Our presence is causing his government embarrassment and disunity.

Although Bush said we would leave when asked to, I'll believe that when I see it. Look at history to find the answer to the conditions of their democracy. Their government will only survive if it is in agreement with our needs.

If the Iraqi president asks us to leave and we did, he would turn around and blame us for that chaos that ensues when the civil war in Iraq expontentially gets worse. Of course when Iraq falls into to complete anarchy it will be our fault too.

It is supposed to be about democracy and freedom. We supposedly aided the Iraqis in setting up their own, freely elected government, but we seem reluctant to leave them to govern without us.

If the Iraqi government wants the U.S. to leave, they should leave, if Bush does not allow the U.S. to leave, then he should suffer the consequences of such an act.

Yeah, what if a humongous asteroid dropped from the sky...? The President of Iraq isn't going to ask us to leave until it's time. He's not stupid and he knows what's at risk here. He knows how bad the terrorist want his country. Too bad the Liberal Democrats don't know that.
