Well, since there's so much here, let's do the
addition parts in a different way.
Get good at it and you can even do these in your head!
1. Simple rule: When adding mixed numbers like
these add the whole number parts, then the fractions
and combine.
So 2 1/5 + 3 1/5 = 5 + (1/5 + 1/5) = 5 2/5.

2. 3 5/8 + 1 4/7.
Again we have (3+1) + (5/8 + 4/7)
Whole number part = 4
Now add 5/8 + 4/7
It is a rule that a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd
But this gives a way to add to fractions with
different denominators:
We call it "down product"(ad) + "up product"(bc)
divided by "bottom product"(bd).
So 5/8 + 4/7 = (5*7+8*4)/56 = 67/56
Finally we get 4 67/56 or, since 67/56 = 1 11/56,
5 11/56.
Try no.7 this way:
4 2/3 + 1 4/5
Whole number part = 5
2/3 + 4/5 = 22/15 = 1 7/15.
Answer: 6 7/15.
