I think they are marking for interest of someone in particular or that they have more stars than answers on their new replacement profile.

i don't hold a grudge against them or anything! how would youknow anyway? yes, i do go to people's profiles to see if they did star me. and if no one that answered the question did star it, then i know! but i did that a few times. i had reached my limit, so i just starred the questions that i wanted to answer!

that they liked it but couldn't come up with a clever enough answer. That's why I star questions I don't answer, too.
