I'm watching League right now and I remember when I first saw it in the theatre that one of the ballplayers, one of the background actresses with a speaking role, said she was from Saskatchewan and when the season was over she was in the locker room complaining about returning to winters in Saskatchewan. I know there was a woman from Wilcox, Saskatchewan who was in the league but I'm wondering what the name of the character in the movie was and the name of the actress. Tried looking up the quotes in IMDB but they're not there. Help!

I need the character's name and the actress who plays her. End credits and IMDB don't help since I don't know the character's name or the actress' name.

Still not getting an answer on this. I need the FICTIONAL character's name (and there would be one since it's a speaking role) and the name of the actress who played her. I do NOT need the names of the real Saskatchewan players. Just the FICTIONAL one from the movie. *sigh*

Mary Baker, Regina

Two blocks down from the General Store in Cooperstown, N.Y., is a large, church-like building made of red brick.

This is the Baseball Hall of Fame, home to Mantle and Mays, Hammerin' Hank and The Babe. It's home, too, to a number of women from Saskatchewan who played in the All-American Girls Baseball League, which ran from 1943-54. The AGBL is featured in an exhibit in the Hall.

Among the Girls of Summer were Mary Baker of Regina. Her eight brothers and sisters were all catchers, so naturally Baker became a catcher, too.

She played in the pro league in the States for nine years, mostly with the South Bend Blue Sox. She had a career year in 1946, batting .286 and stealing 94 bases in 94 games.

A former model, Baker was often chosen to pose for publicity photos and was featured in Life magazine.

While the characters in the 1992 movie A League of Their Own were fictitious, it has been said that the character played by actress Geena Davis -- Dottie Hinson -- most resembled Baker.

Baker later became manager of the Kalamazoo Lassies. When she returned to Regina, she got a job at CKRM as the first female sportscaster in Canada.

Other players from Saskatchewan in the All-American League were Velma Abbott, Catherine Bennett, Elizabeth Berthiaume, Christine Jewitt, Marguerite Jones, Mildred Warwick, Betty Petryna, Daisy Junor, Ruby Knezovich, Ethel McCreary, Jean George, Julie Dusanko and Agnes Zurkowski, all of Regina, Thelma Grambo of Domremy, Hazel Measner of Holdfast, Anne Surkowski, Lee Surkowski, June Emerson and Ruth Mason of Moose Jaw, Terry Donohue of Melaval, Janet Anderson of Bethune, Muriel Coben and Elsie Wingrove of Saskatoon and Arleene Noga of Ogema.
