Very recently our washer started making a horrible screeching noise when it is filling with hot water. This noise is heard all throughout the house, so we can't wash clothes late at night when others are sleeping. My company also had an institutional coffee maker that made the same noise when it was preparing to brew. The coffee maker was replaced and the new one is silent. What causes this and how can I fix it?

Turn off the water supply and remove the hot water hose. Check the washers in the ends of the hose. They may be going bad and make a sound like a reed instrument due to vibrating when water flows through them. Bad washers can also allow air to be sucked into the water line (even though there are no leaks) and this can cause noises.

it sounds like the fill valve on your toilet is bad the coffee pot probably had hard water build up. Replacing the fill valve is cheap and easy and vinegar can get rid of the crud in the coffee pot. In Wyoming where I live if enough crud and minerals build up in the hot water heaters they will make a rumbling noise when in use. Good Luck
