as long as wealth, fame, and power are pure of heart and spiritually clean - yes, that is an option to attain "fulfillment".

Maybe. Whatever a man needs to be fulfilled is "the good". According to Plato, Socrates, etc., the good is different for each person. One man may think that the goal of his life is to become famous. When he achieves that goal, he may either realize that he was right or wrong in making that judgement. For another man, it may be wealth that they are after. It depends on each person. Wealth, fame, and power are three things that a man might classify as his good. If that is what he wants, then he should have every right to seek it. It is his own fault if he is not fulfilled once he has everything that he wants.

We talk about the problem of evil, but the problem of happiness (or fulfilment, call it what you will) is just as puzzling.

All the other comments, whatever their slant, assume that happiness comes from having desires, then having them fulfilled. A hungry man finds food: he's happy. And so on.

But that is exactly the problem. Imagine a state where every need or desire - food, drink, power, sex..... was instantly and fully satisfied. It would be total boredom after a while. He wouldn't be fulfilled at all - just passive.

The other angle - that we need to work for our pleasures to make them satisfying - doesn't sound right either. According to this, you need to be a bit frustrated to be happy. Yes, fine, we're all happy when frustrated. Of course.

So the real question isn't which particular things fulfil you. That will probably vary from person to person. The real question is: what does a state of fulfilment look or feel like? Can it last more than a moment? Can we plan for it, or not?

Sorry to throw a spanner in your works.

There was an interesting thing on radio 4 about how the dimond skull thing showed the futility and empty headedness of the three ideas mentioned, all a person needs to be fulfilled in life is satisfaction, but also companionship if his life is well lived then something for the world to remember him by. I can pick out several significant historical figures who I think have lead worthwile lives, I feel the world remembers them for the right reasons, like what they did to help the world move on.

NO you don't need that to be fulfilled, the most important thing is your family, friends, their love, your self-respect and humanity. wealth, fame and power doesn't stay for that long but all this things listed above will be with you forever and only this things will give you your hapiness not wealth, fame or power.

In order to be fulfilled a man, or a woman, needs to know and experience TRUE LOVE. This means giving time, energy and effort into being gentle, kind caring etc. to ALL human beings. If someone believes the question IS the answer then they have an ego as big as the planet earth.
To be fulfilled give of yourself!

What about SEX? What good is all that other stuff without sex? You can't leave out the reason for acquiring wealth, fame and power. Then there are those of us who have plenty of great sex and don't need those other things.

No. God should be number one in everyone's life. And without love the soul withers.
Howard Hughes had wealth, fame and power, and was one of the most messed-up individuals I have ever heard of. He had no real heirs (no children). He died lonely, alone and afraid of germs!!!
If one does not use God's gifts to further God, then those gifts will not last. May God bless you.

Marriage is about communication of each others needs. People can't read each other's minds. That's the key. Looking "elsewhere" is for losers who are too lazy to communicate to work on a problem.
