More is less. Whatever style or color make sure they compliment your skin color. Pastels usually look good on everyone but particularly if your skin tone is darker.
Don't buy any skirt that is more than 3 or 4 inches above the knee.
Make sure the pants you buy are not too tight. They should have some loose in the waist and the buttock area this way underwear lines don't show.
Always wear "grandma underwear" if you don't want lines to show.
Same rule applies to shorts, don't make them too short, that only looks cheap. They should cover your thigh at least 3 inches down your leg.
Hope this tip helps, if you wear t-strap t-shirts, wear a light flowing shirt over it when going out.

OK, so, you want it to be apropriate? You can just have capris jeans, and then a nice summer/spring tank top, or polo t-shirt... you can even do like jean Shorts, and do a nice slim t-shirt that works on you... Just think nice bright open colors... Your sense of fashion will be done in no time...
