in reverence to the god ratha yatra will be performed. in puri jagannath the presiding deity will be taken in a procession in a chariot. to take 3 kilometers it takes 9 to 12 hours. this is ratha yatra. chariot means raths yatra means journey. politicians are also now a days doing ratha yatra by converting vehicles mounted with mikes and going from one area to another.
