The current thinking is that it probably did not happen. On the other hand, so far as is known, anyone who could have vouched for the story died in the final assault that morning 170 years ago this March 6.
The dramatic tale did not appear in print until 1873, nearly 40 years after the battle. The man who wrote the story for the Texas Almanac - William Physick Zuber - later admitted that while he reconstructed major portions of Travis' speech, he included only one paragraph of fiction. Unfortunately, he did not say which paragraph that was.
In the end it matters not whether Travis actually drew a line in sand. We Texans know that Texas, like America, is not some dry collection of facts.
Travis and the other heros of the Texas Revolution are part of the glory and the dream lives in our hearts and that is the truth of Texas.

I think it's legend. All the Texans at the Alamo died, so how could we know? It's a good story, though.

Does it matter? What does matter is that Willaim B. Travis and his men took a stand and cost Santa Anna dearly and gave Sam Houston valuable time. One has to truly admire the men from Gonzales who rode through enemy lines to join Travis and his men. More should be written about them.

One person at the Alamo elected to not remain and its from him that we have all the biographical information. On the balance of probability I doubt he did anything so melodramatic - not really his style I would have said.

you ought to evaluate the context somewhat. the individuals had suggested that Jesus grow to be possessed by an evil spirit. They have been claiming that the Holy Spirit interior Jesus grow to be actual a demon. Jesus grow to be declaring that the absurdity of that. he's is comparing the reliable guy to the devil. he's calling them the way it may be possible for him to do any of his stable works he wasn't first binding up that reliable guy. Jesus has entered devil's territory and is pillaging him of his possessions. Now with connection with the unforgivable sin, there is warm debate interior Christendom on that subject count. some say that Jesus is asserting that denying who Jesus is is unforgivable, a minimum of until you repent. i discover that somewhat stressful to swallow. My own opinion is that Jesus is asserting that in case you declare that the works of the Holy Spirit are demonic then you definately can in no way be forgiven, ever. it form of feels somewhat hardcore yet that looks like the main immediately-forward rationalization of the passage to me.
