Because he's a gritty determined batsman who knows his game inside out, he can hit boundaries when he wants to and can nurdle it about for singles when he needs too.
In one day cricket he has been known to win matches single handedly, particlularly in the 2007 tri-bank series against Australia and New Zealand.
He's a useful bowler, particularly in one day cricket and currently holds the best bowling figures in an international 20:20 match.
Last but not least he's one of the greatest ever fielders, wherever he fields be it backward point, slip or mid on he will always shine. Just look at some of his spectacular catches, run-outs and stops over the years.

he's a gr8 test player, a gud one day player, an astute skipper or else d ICC wudnt have nominated him 4 d best skipper award
