Well right now I reside in Murfreesboro TN. Here is some information about Hardy Murfree.
*He was a Colonel in the American Revolutionary War, noted for leading a successful attack against British forces in the Battle of Stony Point at Stony Point, New York, on July 15, 1779.
*The town of Cannonsburgh, Tennessee, was renamed Murfreesboro in 1811 by the Tennessee State Legislature, in Murfree's honor.
I was Born and Raised near Akron Ohio here is some information about F.A. Seiberling. A very Interesting man.
*Frank Seiberling is an American inventor/founder. He is most famous for founding the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and the Seiberling Rubber Company. He also built a mansion, called Stan Hywet, which is now a national museum.
*Goodyear's founding father was actually Frank A. Seiberling.
*Founded the Seiberling Rubber Co. in nearby Barberton.

Years ago I took a teaching position in Alton Illinois, and I'm still there (7 years from retirement!). Alton's great claim to fame, aside from being the site of one of the Lincoln-Douglas Debates back before the Civil War, is that it was the birthplace of Robert Wadlow, who is still listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the tallest man who ever lived, beating out Goliath of Gath by nearly a cubit and a half!

I don’t know about great people, who’s to decide what qualifies for “great?” Below is a list of the famous people born in or residents of the area from which I come, or at least as many of them as I can remember offhand:
From My Hometown, Manheim, Pennsylvania (current population 4,879):
Henry William Stiegel (aka Heinrich Wilhelm Stiegel, aka Baron Heinrich von Stiegel), a German-born pre-Revolutionary American iron founder and glassmaker
From the county in which I live (2005 population of 490,562), and the county seat, which is the nearest city, Lancaster, Pennsylvania (2005 population 56,348):
Edward Hand, a physician who served with distinction as one of George Washington's most trusted aides and Adjutant General of the Continental Army.
James Buchanan, 15th President of the United States
James Demuth, world famous artist
Robert Fulton, pioneer steamship builder, artist, inventor and engineer.
Milton S. Hershey, began his candy making career in Lancaster, PA with the Lancaster Caramel Company.
Frank W. Woolworth, founder of Woolworth Department Stores, built his first five and dime store in Lancaster.
Tom Herr (aka Tommy Herr), was second baseman for the Cardinals 1979-1988, and also played for the Twins, Phils, Mets and Giants toward the end of his career (1988-1991)
John Sutter, a founding pioneer of California, one of the framers of California’s state constitution, owner of Sutter’s Mill, where the 1849 gold rush began (early in1848). He retired to Lititz, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania while petitioning Congress for compensation for land taken, damages to his crops, stolen horses and equipment, and slaughtered livestock during the gold rush. He died there, uncompensated.

Cherokee Chief William Holland Thomas (only white man to be recognized as a Cherokee chief); he also called President Andrew Jackson's "Forced Indian Removal Policies" immoral and illegal.
William Holland Thomas, consequently, gave safe haven to 1000 Cherokees (the Trail of Tears killed and murdered over 4,000 Cherokees as they were illegally forced from their homeland).
Today, the Eastern Cherokee membership is over 10,000. The Cherokee currently proclaim that without Chief William Thomas's intervention there would not be an Eastern Band of Cherokee Nation.
