Sorry, forgot about that, but not 5 points. usually 6 at most and in a playoff game?

Best? Maybe but I wouldn't say for sure. Best KNOWN? Probably. He has made himself a big name even as a kicker. To say he is the BEST EVER though would put him ahead of guys like Gary "Automatic" Anderson. How about the man he replaced Vanderjerk, oops I mean Vanderjet who had the best career percentage and if you leave off last season he may have been one of the best kickers. He never recovered psychologically when he missed that field goal against the Steelers though. People said oh that was one last F U to the Colts, but ask yourself Why wouldn't he want that ring? Even if he KNEW he was leaving after that season why would he blow it before a case where you are in the Superbowl and can't win? He missed against the Steelers and then never got it back, kinda sad. I believe Morten Anderson has the most points ever for a kicker and passed Gary Anderson. I wouldn't even promise he is the most clutch. He is simply the best known. He helped bring more attention to the position by being on a team that had to count on him in the biggest moments.

I just wanted to add that he isn't even the only kicker to score all his teams points in THAT GAME. There were no TDs in that game. BOTH kickers got all the points. At first I wasn't really looking and though it was a winning kicker and figured you mean playoffs. Now if you mean Winning or LOSING then BOTH kickers did. Weird huh? That is DEFENSE though, not the amazing kickers but the amazing job of the two defenses.

Everyone who thinks he is the best kicker in NFL history is probably under 20 yrs old or simply has no clue about NFL history. Yeah he had some good clutch kicks and won his championships, but other kickers have won multiple championships. He happened to be in the unique situation where the games came down to being decided by last second kicks. This doesn't make him a better kicker than someone who's team was up 2 TDs at the end of the game and never got that chance.

Plenty of other great kickers have been mentioned by other answerers. Look up their stats and their careers. I don't think this vote is going to go to the kicker with the most rings. Yes he made kicks to help his team get to those rings, but he's not the reason the team made it to all those superbowls in the 1st place.

Also, only kicker to score all his teams points in a game? Come on? Happens probably 10-15 times EVERY YEAR!!!! A team score only 3pts or 6pts or 9pts. Happens all the time. His game against the Ravens was imprssive, but not the only time that has happened. Do some research about these things before you make these claims.

Vinatieri is probably the best ever....I'd personally like to know who has the most Field Goal accuracy from 50 yards and beyond in making a decision, though...

Have to agree on Jan Stenerud's "elite" status as a kicker, too...

and what about guys like the Saints' Tom Dempsey(kicked with half a foot and tied with Jason Elam of the Broncos for longest FG in NFL history)...and the Broncos/Vikings/Lions Rich Karlis....who kicked barefoot and booted 7 field goals for Minnesota against the Rams in a bizarre game that saw no Touchdowns from the purple in a 23-21 Overtime win(with the winning score a safety when Linebacker Mike Merriweather blocked a punt out of the back of the endzone!

actually several kickers have scored all their teams points in a game. first that comes to mind is chris boniol for dallas several years ago where he kicked 7 field goals whichtied the record. and don't forget that 6-3 hurricane game awhile back. i forget the teams.
but adam vinatieri is not even close to the best kicker. he's very much a clutch performer. i mean 3 game winning super bowl field goals. can't beat that. but of all time? not a chance...
here's a few that are better:
jan stenerud-only kicker in the hall of fame
morten andersen-in his prime could routinely kick 55+ yd. field goals
gary andersen-all time leading field goal kicker
george blanda-i throw in blanda because he played the 2 hardest postions for most of his career: qb and kicker. he is still 3rd on the all time scoring list and was kicking effectively well into his late 40's. and remember this was before the much more effective soccer-style kickers came into the league.

You have to learn more about NFL history.

Matt Bahr did the same in the NFC Championship game againts the 49ers. That year the Giants beat the Niners 15-13, with Bahr scoring all the 15 points, and NY would become the first team to beat the Bills during the 90s.

Heck No. What about Gary Anderson? Or even Morten Andersen? They have like over 2000 points scored oh and of course George Blanda who played 27 years in the league. Also Jan Sterud who is in the Hall of Fame who was a good kicker for the Cheifs. If your talking about today I would have to say Matt Stover.

Yes! he's the greatest kicker in NFL history, under pressure i never seen anybody better than him. Two of the three Patriot championship is won by his kick, he's not the strongest kicker but a great under pressure kicker the NFL ever seen. I'd have to say he's a Hall of Fame kicker.

I think Adam is the most "clutch" kicker in NFL history. But did everyone forget that Mike Vanderjact is the most accurate kicker in NFL history? I think Mike Vanderjact is better than Adam. Argue With Me.

yeah he is. kickers are hardly noticed unless they miss kicks. then its goodbye. but vinatieri has made every clutch kick in the post season or regular season to get to the post season. he is the best big game kicker of all time. blanda andersen and anderson may have scored a lot of points but gary missed one that would have sent the vikings to the playoffs and morton never sniffed a super bowl. vinateri is the best clutch kicker ever. no arguement. plus he has 4 super bowl rings. thats more than micheal vick, payton manning, donavan mcnabb, brett favre, and any other starting qb combined.
