My yard has been getting large holes dug in it after it rains. The holes are mostly a little ways into the yard along a tree line. My dad thinks the animal is looking for worms.

I don't know where you live of course. I'm in Minnesota and skunks can be a problem. They change their diet, depending on the time of year. But in the summer they dig for worms and grubs, as well as exploit other food sources. The holes they dig are rarely larger than fist size. During a rain, worms will come to the surface to avoid drowning, or be just under the surface after a rain. That's when the skunks can smell them out. I try to keep skunks out of the yard with a paint-ball gun.

There are a few well solutions right here already. I reside within the southeast so the developing season is best and lengthy. When I was once younger we regularly had a lawn that occupied an complete acre. Now I used a raised lawn mattress with a combo of sawdust, dried fowl poop, sticks, eggshells, newspaper shreddings, espresso grounds (in different phrases, compost), and well grime. The mattress is approximately 15 toes lang and five toes extensive. I additionally use giant low-cost pots (frequently historic tubs, funky packing containers) and develop herbs and tomatos in the ones. There are a few cool the other way up planters that can be utilized for tomatos and strawberries however I have no longer attempted them but. Last yr a pumpkin vine grew in which I had tossed one out into the backyard after Halloween! The historic nation means was once to plant approximately 20% greater than you wanted in order that the birds and squirrells, and so forth. might even have anything to consume. If you've got well grime and worms, you are set! The worms produce excellent fertilizer and preserve your soil turning. Pull the weeds.

Skunks will dig for grubs. Birds wil look for worms, but shouldn't cause much damage from digging. Raccoons might dig for worms or anything else they can find. A dog from the area might be digging for something if your yard isn't fenced in.
