Do u think people fail to look after themselves today, and can u have any sympathy for people who live lifestyles that are detramental to their health?

what are your thoughts?

I am a student nurse and obviously work in a hospital. I can honestly say over 90% of the cases that we get in hospital now are illnesses that are directly related to lifestyle (I.e heart disease, diabetes, COPD, the list is endless.) And I have to say I have grown really tired of seeing people smoke and drink as much as they want, don't do any excercise and eat nothing but preprocessed crap, and then just expect us (the NHS) to come along and solve their problems. It is reallly annoying.

So yes I think the majority of people fail to look after theselves, they all now the risks, they all have the means to live healthily if they choose, so I have absolutely no sympathy at all.

The NHS is finally starting to wake up to this and are refusing to perate on obese people unless they lose weight, and are attempting to bring the same rule in for smokers.

And just as a point of interest, I do practice what I preach. I don't smoke, don't do drugs, drink only very occasionally for a night out and eat healthily 90% of the time. I also excercise 4 times a week, doing an hour of cardio and an hour of weights each time, and then swim 50 lengths after, despite my busy schedule. So it is possible! (And I can still enjoy the occasional chinese/pizza/etc once or maybe twice a week without it being detrimental because I excercise for it.)

So for all the 50 a day alky lardarses out there, what is your excuse?

To me sypathy depends on how their lifestyles are detrimental to their health. For instance, firemen, cops, and doctors all have occupations that are detrimental to their health, but I have alot a sympathy for them.

That is a good old saying, there are many others like it. Self destruction is not worthy of sympathy.
