Queen Boudica of the Iceni kingdom of Britain led a rebellion against Rome in the year 60 or 61 after the Romans annexed her late husband. Prasutagus's kingdom, flogged her and raped her daughters. The deaths on both sides may have reached 160,000, apparently rather equally divided between the two sides. When she was defeated, she is reported to have taken poison and died.
Melida Anaya Montes, who went by the nom de guerre "Ana Maria" was the second in command of the FMLN communist insurgency in El Salvador until her murder in 1983 by its leader, Cayetano Carpio, who went by the nom de guerre "Commander Marcial." The FMLN demobilized in 1992 and is now one of the two leading political parties in El Salvador, although some elements of the party have broken off.

Molly Pitcher has been associated with a tale of the Revolution, but almost every woman connected to a patriot soldier would fit the bill. This is why we have an association called the 'DAR' or 'Daughters of the Revolution'....
