After you lose the mucus plug or after the membranes rupture (your "water breaks"), the fetus becomes more vulnerable to infection. Therefore, it is NOT considered safe to have intercourse (or any penetration) after the mucus plug is released.

The mucus plug will "regenerate" itself somewhat, but won't be as thick and tight as before.

33 weeks seems early to lose the mucus plug, though. I would have your doctor or midwife do an exam to double check.

All the best to you and baby!

I agree with the first answer. Some ppl do have sex after their mucus plug has broken. Everyone doesnt have the same body so it mite or mite not b ok for u to have sex. If u havent already call ur doc and discuss it with him/her. They have been taken care of u for 33 weeks now so they would know what is best for u and ur unborn child. Congrats and good luck

Defently call your doctor right now. It is a little to early to be starting anything. Everything could be ok because your plug will grow back but you need to make sure you are not dilating or anything like that! good luck and wish you the best!

Losing a mucus plug early is usually no biggie.
They can re-form anyhow.
Did you call & ask your Doctor.
Only he can tell you if sex is safe for you & baby now.

the mucus is the "cork" in the uterus opening....it comes out when you are close to having the baby, and allows for baby to pass through. it can come out when you begin to efface (thin out)....mine was white, and pretty long....it kept coming out even the next day after it began. i went into labor the following day. not sure on the sex part, but i wouldn't recommend it.

I would call your ob right away just to ask and see if they would want to see you. I would hold off on sex until you have contact with your ob on the phone or in the office and see what they say.

I know some lose it early on, but just call to be safe.

GOOD LUCK !!!!
